Inspiration- I have just found a new favourite author- Richard Fidler.
His book “The Book of Roads and Kingdoms” is full of adventures and their stories from the days when the world was very wide, indeed.
The Medieval Muslin World, 500 years before Marco Polo was full of adventurers poking around to all corners of Africa, and all across Asia from West to East.
Ibn Battuta has been a favourite for a long time and I have longed to hear more- this book birthed during the pandemic is proving very satisfying.
Amin Maalouf is another writer who feeds this wanderlust especially “Leo Africannis”, well actually, all his books….and “My Name is Red” by Orhan Palmuk. These two writers’ works are set at a later time but still bring that feel of a wide and amazing world, all ready to explore.

This quote is attributed to an Arab Wise Man., I’d say he has nailed it.

Happy travels or dreams of travels, these stories are certain to make feet itch.
The picture is Volubilis in Morocco built to be a bread basket for Ancient Rome.
