Vietnam is a feast for the senses and has a wonderfully rich textile culture, in this fully escorted trip we set out to explore the culture and make a textile journal/quilt/garment to capture our memories.

CAS is teaming up with intrepid traveller and well-known textiles teacher Gillian Travis. Gillian is well known for her back-packing and has a great eye for an interesting place and turning her photos into art quilts back home.

We are following Gillian’s love of travel and using it to inspire creative work, but ditching back-packing for an air-conditioned bus and comfortable hotels to make a journey to gather inspiration and skills.

Vietnam-Travel to Quilt Tour

– a moving workshop that will suit the textile addicted, quilters, mixed media afficionados, people that like visiting artisan workshops, good sightseeing, traditional culture, delicious local cuisine and a creative fix.

The workshop this tour is based around is Gillian’s Course – how to transfer your travel photos to cloth [NO drawing skills necessary]
AND
seeing possibilities of nice cloth, great stitched motifs and a workshop with sewing machines we thought you might also like to make a jacket inspired by local shapes and cloths..

Pre-trip there will be an email briefing and preparations tutorial, along the road we will have tutorials, take artisan workshops and gather lots of inspiration. A little more information on the workshop we will call our own during the trip.

CAS is old friends with Vietnam, first time we met was in 2007. Take a look back through our blog at some of our meetings.

Creative Arts Safaris Tours are fully escorted, small group tours that focus textiles, arts and culture and yummy local cuisine.

On tour we like to get our hands dirty taking workshops, exploring locations and culture, in addition to including lots of local experiences.

Our friendly groups are inclusive. They are companionable and well organized allowing a relaxed adventure and great for solo travellers.

Tours include pickup & drop to airport, accommodation, group travel, sightseeing, workshops, and most meals; almost everything EXCEPT the shopping – that is your job.
