Vietnam- Travel to Quilt Question

Great Question this morning. “I am curious how the “make” days work. What sort of space is it? Do we have access to sewing machines? Any supplies that have to be brought by participants?”

— Yes we have access to machines And the women who usually use them will be there to assist too. It is a lovely purpose built space of a women’s co-op that produces fine textile products I’ve attached a picture I took recently. Sewing machines and weaving looms in it, in a big airy space

— Supplies? Fabric, braids etc for your Make Time, you can pick up along the way. We are visiting a variety of markets and second hand textile dealers along the way. Hanoi has some fabulous fabric markets, braid and haberdashery street.

Sapa, Bac Ha and Mai Chou have great second hand markets,

you will be making your own Batik indigo piece of cloth in a workshop with Mrs Chi.

Lots of opportunity to pick up great fabrics to work with.

We’ll start looking at jacket designs in The Ethnological Museum first day for inspiration…

I have a basic pattern graded to many sizes we can use as a base shape…

End results will be to suit your tastes, Gillian will have samples and ideas to share. You bring a basic sewing kit- scissors and needles you like for hand work, we’ll have machine thread to supply.

Pre-trip Gillian will start the ball rolling with a prep email.

March 2024- it will be a lot of fun and creativity. Check out the trip and workshop.
