Moorish Delights of Andalusia and Morocco Textile Tour

A long time ago a kingdom existed where the Three Peoples of the Book lived together and created a culture of incredible beauty. These were the Muslim, Jewish and Christian Moorish people of Andalusia in Southern Spain and Morocco.
On this journey we will have a chance to trace a little of their history through the cultural treasures still standing: incredible architecture, gardens to equal those of paradise and delicious food and a rich textile and crafts culture.

In Spain, the full richness of Moorish culture is experienced in the architecture and tile work of Cordoba and Granada- – inspiration for quilt making or embroidery, I am sure.

Crossing over the Straights of Gibraltar into Morocco the beauty of old, old towns with winding lanes and arched windows and studded doors is ours to explore.

Spain is like an appetiser for the feast that is Morocco. World Heritage Medinas [labyrinth like markets places], Roman Ruins, the mighty Atlas Mountains and the Sand Dunes of the Sahara play a rich backdrop to an active and vibrant crafts and textile culture.

We will participate in textile workshops and experience a feast of impressions; splendid palaces, flourishing textile traditions, labyrinth like markets or souks, Medinas or walled cities, deserts and oasis, old Kasbahs; a medieval imperial city, Roman ruins and then off the beaten track to some of the smaller, colourful local markets, sunset and then sunrise in the Sahara desert.

On tour we like to get our hands dirty taking workshops, exploring locations and culture, in addition to including lots of local experiences.

Our friendly groups welcome women and men, they are companionable and well organized allowing a relaxed adventure.
