What a morning.

I went out to see the balloons over Cappadocia.

It was extraordinary.

Overwhelming, I just wanted to cry.

I took a thousand pictures but not one of them comes close to the real experience.

You just have to be there, I guess.

Cappadocia is a land of fairy chimneys, cave dwellings, and surreal landscapes that look like they’re straight out of a dream. The hot air balloon ride is a highlight that offers breath-taking views of this otherworldly terrain. As you float above the valleys and rock formations, the sunrise paints the sky in hues of orange and pink, creating a magical atmosphere that is simply unforgettable.

I'm not a tour person but the Rajasthan tour I did with Fiona in 2013 was just magic. The pace was just right allowing time to stitch things we had seen but I was also doing natural dye samples along the way on a 10m scroll of silk. Days in the Fort drawing and talking to the local people were very precious. The colours and fabrics of Rajasthan shine in a light similar to Australia, so I felt captivated. Indigo, natural dyes, chemical dyes, carpet weaving, beading, kantha stitch are now parts of my textile lexicon. Thank you, Fiona.
