The Romanian Blouse

I have been poking around on the internet this morning trying to find out more about an exhibition held recently in Romania.

Google Translate was a help, although slightly baffling as well.

I am pretty sure the exhibition was called “I sew for a Cause” although Google suggested “Bucket for a Cause”

The ie [Romanian Blouse] was used as a canvas to make comment on nature and keeping culture alive.

Please excuse any misquote, Google Translate was helping….

“each new shirt presents the two worlds in contrast: on the one hand, the world of the past and, on the other hand, the wilderness that can be reached if we do not value everything that surrounds us. The founder of the “Semne cusute” community, Ioana Corduneanu, says that the exhibition is a wake-up call for the world to value the richness of nature, but also the beauty of the traditional craft of sewing an ie”

Look at the blouse pictured- sorry I could not find details of the master embroidered who stitched it.

Read from left to right- what a wonderful canvas.

The Romanian Blouse was inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022

Can’t wait to learn more on our next visit in May 2024. Check our calendar for dates and details.
