Inspired by Vietnamese textile Upcycling

I’ve raided my stash of fabrics to work on a jacket inspired by all the lovely looks and upcycled textiles I have collected in Vietnam.

The bold red floral is often used as little appliqued strips on Green H’mong skirts. I thought I would use it to line a jacket.

The cross-stitch strip from a woman on the roadside in Sapa, braid in Hanoi…. how will it go together?

Look at the gorgeous jacket made by Chris. She was our guest years ago and bought a bed cover made from upcycled textiles, which she upcycled into this jacket.

Love the upcycling!

On ” Travel to Quilt-Vietnam” we are lucky enough to visit the Green H’mong village, it has been out of my reach for the last many years, due to access problems.

Now a good road and warm welcome await us.

Look at the divine shoes and how to pleat a skirt. Hand made hemp fabric, indigo dyed. WOW!

@gilliantravis is our tutor, we are chasing fabric and workshopping. She is teaching her course Travel to Quilt and we are also making jackets. Don’t worry the women of our workshop space will help machine stitch if you need help.

At Creative Arts Safaris Tours we offer fully escorted, small group tours. CAS focuses on textiles, crafts, arts and culture and yummy local cuisine.

On tour we like to get our hands dirty taking workshops, exploring locations and culture. We like to include lots of local experiences.

Our friendly groups are inclusive. They are companionable and well organized allowing a relaxed adventure, great for solo travellers.

They include pickup & drop to airport, accommodation, group travel, sightseeing, workshops, and most meals. Almost everything EXCEPT the shopping – that is your job. Help the local economy.
