Out of the furnace- Ghana recycled glass beads

Ghana is amazing … in so many ways.

The industry that does into making glass beads is astounding.

Used glass bottles are powdered into a dust, clay moulds are filled with glass dust and put into the blazing inferno.

When it has slumped just enough it is drawn out and holes are made in the bead.

it then has to be cooled very slowly, so the glass does not crack.

they are polished in a grinding bowl by being rubbed by hand

then strung and are ready for market.
