Salina Turda or Turda Salt Mine.

In Transylvania, Romania

Salt was first extracted here during the antiquity. The mine continuously produced table salt from the Middle Ages, the mine being first mentioned in 1075, to the early–20th century (1932)

Since 1992, Salina Turda has been a halotherapy centre [an alternative therapy that uses salt in the treatments] and a popular tourist attraction.

I imagine this is what it feels like to visit The Kingdom Under the Mountain of the Dwarves from Tolkien’s stories.

Vast- although you are in a huge cave it feels like the vastness of space

Subtle glitter of the crystals

The air is so fine- cool- fresh, I can see why they would have a health spa in here.

An extraordinary place to visit.

Salina Turda was ranked in 2013 by Business Insider as among the “25 hidden gems around the world that are worth the trek”

The light is soft and has a glow to it- magic? I don’t know but it felt Magical. Hard to photograph and capture a sense of the vast spaces.

Look at the horse and cart passing when I came back to the surface.
