Uzbek Scissors

I’ve got a bit of a thing for good workmanship and useful tools.

These old scissors in an embroidery workshop really took my eye, and they made sense of all the fantasy scissors a few blacksmiths make in Bukhara. The shape/ bends in the origianal design lead to adding wings etc.
My winged pair are nice and sharp.

Wild aren’t they?
I have pair but can see the need to indulge again in the future.

Look at the beautiful hand made knives… Damascus steel.
The blade is made by folding the metal back on itself many times, which creates the wavey patterns.

The blades are strong and flexible and can be honed to a very sharp edge….. those types of weapons would be a big part of how they got of the ancient wealth of the area.

Next scissor shopping happens in April.

There are so many living crafts to explore in Uzbekistan, warm and welcoming people and a stunning landscape to travel through, beautiful ancient cities full of blue tiled monuments.
